The design elements that I chose to incorporate into the logo design are the iconic parts of not only Japan and Japantown itself, but the elements of the garage as well as the purpose of the JCGC. Obvious elements used in the design are the iconic red circle meant to represent the Japanese flag, the rising sun and the consistent use of circles in Japantown’s architecture, and the pagoda, which is the landmark of the area. Cars were added to the design in order to differentiate the logo from the others in Japantown that also include the pagoda enclosed in a circle as well as the maple leaves that can be found on the walls of the Japantown garage. It’s a hope that the inclusion of the cars and the maple leaves add something new but familiar to the logo and is simple, modern and flexible enough to easily place on any documents it may need to be presented on.
